But do you know what to do when you see blue lights?
Find out below:
- If an emergency services vehicle appears behind you on blue lights and sirens, remain calm, do not panic and move over to the left, if it is safe to do so.
- Please avoid stopping on or just before bends or on approaching to the brow of a hill. Keep travelling until you have cleared the hazard, then pull over to the left if it is safe.
- Do not go through red lights; you would not be expected to go through a red light and to put yourself and others in danger. You would also be committing an offence in doing so.
- Avoid pulling into cycle or bus lanes as you would also be committing an offence in doing so.
- Do not stop in the right-hand lanes of motorways or dual carriageways. Wait until it is safe then move over to the left lane.
