Police have confirmed that they have put a public spaces protection order (PSPO) in place at Junction 27 of the M1 near Hucknall.

The move comes as an attempt to combat anti-social behaviour, something which has been associated with the area for many years.

The PSPO has led to two fixed penalty notices being issued earlier this week.

A statement posted on Ashfield Police's Facebook page yesterday (Thursday 19 January), read: "A PUBLIC SPACES PROTECTION ORDER is in place at JUNCTION 27.

"This is in place to deal with nuisance vehicles causing persistent Anti- Social Behaviour within the area. Officers carry out regular patrols of the area and anyone found in breach of this Order, could face either a FIXED PENALTY NOTICE of £100 and or a SECTION 59 being placed on their vehicle.

"This is in addition to any other road traffic offences. SECTION 59 notices are very powerful, as if breached by anyone using the vehicle, this could lead to the vehicle being seized by police.

"Today an officer from HUCKNALL BEAT TEAM alongside a Community Protection Officer from ASHFIELD DISTRICT COUNCIL, have been to issue two Fixed Penalty Notices of £100. This was after officers conducted patrols of The JUNCTION 27 area earlier in the week, and two vehicles were seen breaching the PSPO.

"Patrols are continuing to ensure that other road users are kept safe!"
