A recreational gymnastics club based in Hucknall is running a holiday club during the summer.

Wildkatz Gymnastics which was founded by former elite level gymnast Kat Bramley, only started at the beginning of this year. However, just over six months into its existence all 13 of the Friday night, Saturday and Sunday classes that she runs are fully subscribed.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News Ms Bramley said: "It's been a roaring success. All of my classes are fully booked now. I do have waiting lists and things like that. Things are running smoothly; the kids are happy that's the main thing as well.

Such has been the success of the club that Kat has been able to quit her job at Aldi warehouse and make gymnastics coaching her full-time career. She admits this has come a lot sooner than she expected when she started her new venture.

"Honestly I wouldn't have thought of it like that because obviously I was brand new and I've never set up a business before so when I have done and it's got that full that quick it was quite a surprise to be fair."

"I genuinely thought that it would be a year in before I could do it, it all happened very fast and I'm not great with change so when it was like that I thought I have to make that decision now and it was the best decision I've made to be honest."

This move has allowed her the flexibility to expand to run pre-school classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She also says she has time to do all the necessary administration needed to keep the business running efficiently.

Now, with the summer holidays approaching, Ms Bramley has decided to branch out further by running a holiday club.

This will take the form of two one-day sessions offering four-piece gymnastics which comprises of bars, beam, floor and vault.

There will also be a dance workshop led by dance World Cup champion Shenea Fawzi.

Of the holiday club, Kat said: "The reason I want to do it is because I believe it gives the kids structure during the six weeks holidays. Obviously they don't have school, I think it's quite a nice thing as well for parents to be able to still go to work and not have to worry (about their children), in a sense it's childcare."

The holiday club is aimed at children aged between four and 16.

"It's quite a big age range but I have a couple of coaches that are going to be helping me out; I can split them accordingly," she explained.

"I think it's quite nice as well because at Wildkatz the classes are all split up and they're all in year groups. I think it'll be quite nice for all of Wildkatz to be able to mingle with each other, it's nice to make friends."

The first day of the holiday club will be Monday 8 August and the second is Thursday 18 August. The first day will run from 8:30am until 4pm with the second one will also start at 8:30am but finish a bit later at 5:30pm.

The cost of the first session is £40 per child and the second session is £45 per child. There are limited spaces so children needed to be booked in to the sessions to avoid disappointment. They will both be held in the hall at Kang Han Combat & Martial Arts Academy on the corner of Beardall Street, which is where all of Wildkatz Gymnastics' classes are held.

With the club continuing to expand Ms Bramley is also on the lookout for an assistant coach to join Wildkatz and help her run the numerous classes that she leads.

Asked about the profile of the candidate she is looking for to fill the position, she said: "I'm looking for someone not necessarily with a gymnastics background but someone who's really determined, friendly, has a vibrant personality. That's the most important thing really at Wildkatz because it's all about fun and the kids feed off energies, so I'd like someone who's quite bouncy in a sense and somebody who can adapt quite quickly as well.

"The advert is 'Assistant Coach' but I would like to put people through coaching qualifications so eventually be able to build them up. I'd like someone who has a vision of staying with Wildkatz as well, that's quite important because eventually I'd like them to have their own groups and be quite self-sufficient.

Any enquiries about the holiday club or the assistant coach position should be emailed to [email protected].
