The Remembrance Sunday parade through the town of Hucknall will return as part of this year's hundredth anniversary service.

The event, which will take place on Sunday 13 November, has been organised by the Hucknall British Legion in conjunction with the Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group.

Last year, the parade was cancelled due to insurance complications much to the disappointment of many Hucknall residents.

However, community groups, headed by the Legion worked together to appeal for the Council's help to bring the event back in 2022.

Funding for the event has been provided by Hucknall's County Councillors Dave Shaw, Lee Waters and John Wilmott, through their Councillor's Divisional Fund, as well as a grant from Ashfield District Council.

The parade will assemble outside Hucknall Library at 10am, before taking the route to the Cenotaph at Titchfield Park for the Call to Remembrance. They will follow the exact route first taken 100 years ago.

Speaking to Hucknall Nub News, Kevin, The Hucknall Royal British Legion Branch Chairman said: "With it being the hundredth year as well, everything's come together.

"It was (the late) Jim Blagden who got the ball rolling, Jim was a big believer in the Remembrance.

"We all worked together and went up to the Council, had a meeting and asked them if they could help us to get it back up and running; it's been like a team, we've all done our little bit. They offered us the funding so we did it."

Asked what it was like not to have a parade last year, he added: "It was disappointing, there were that many rule changes, it was just dropped on us at the last minute. All the Hucknall people were disappointed.

"We marched from the top entrances down to the bottom (of Titchfield Park), it just wasn't the same.

"We've done it for years, marched through the town and everybody comes to the windows and on the streets and claps but it put a bit of a dampener (not being able to do it) after Covid and everything. We've all worked together and it's been a good team effort."

Councillor Lee Waters said: "We're pleased to have helped the British Legion with crucial funding to make sure our parade happens for its 100th Anniversary. I know late Councillor Jim Blagden pushed hard to ensure the parade was back for its centenary. It is a crucial part of Hucknall's history and we will be marching with pride – remembering those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today."
