Recent improvements made to a pedestrian crossing in Hucknall have been well received.
Councillor Lee Waters of the Ashfield Independents has welcomed the improvements to the zebra crossing on Portland Road.
It was the Hucknall South Councillor who raised the poor state of lighting as well as the poor road markings. He acted after receiving complaints from a number of residents following a road accident on Portland Road and a number of near misses.
Councillor Waters visited the crossing to review the works and gave it a thumbs up.
He said: "I'm delighted to have secured the funding to carry out this urgent work. It was so important, I even stopped off and thanked the staff from Via East Midlands for carrying out the crucial work. The lineage at the zebra crossing has been completely repainted as well as the adjacent lines and junction markings at its junction with Henry Street. The beacons have also been completely replaced which will significantly improve lighting.
"I'd like to thank all the residents who got in touch about the poor state of the crossing and dangers they face. It just goes to show that by working together – we can deliver positive results that make our roads safer. I will continue to raise issues that residents bring to my attention on a daily basis."
