Yesterday (Sunday 5 September) saw the return of the silver screen to Hucknall with two films shown on Titchfield Park. The outdoor cinema event, which was free to attend, was part of a series of screenings organised by Ashfield District Council, following the first outdoor cinema events back in 2019.

The sun was shining as crowds gathered with their deck chairs and movie snacks on Titchfield Park for the two films as voted for by local residents earlier in the year. There was a family-friendly showing of Disney's Raya & The Last Dragon at 2:30 pm and Rocketman, the 2019 Elton John musical biopic, at 6:30 pm.

Rachel Drewry, who attended with her family, said: "It's really nice to see the community out and for the kids can have [sic] some sense of normality, so it's a good morale boost. It would be nice to have more of these events because not everyone can afford to do things like this."

Katie Faers said: "I think after the last 18 months, it's really nice to have things where the community can come together, and people can enjoy themselves."

Rachel Adams said: "I saw something on Facebook and, with the weather being nice, we decided to come along. It's been really good for the kids to get out, and films like this are ones they want to see, so it's nice to see things like this being done in the community."

Hucknall's event follows Saturday's showings of Trolls: World Tour and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again at Kirkby Plaza. The cinema events continue next weekend with showings on Saturday 11 September at Selston Country Park and Sunday 12 September at Sutton Lawn.
