The third Ashfield Food and Drink festival to be held in Hucknall proved another huge success when it was staged yesterday (Sunday 21 August).

The event saw around 40 stallholders selling a variety of artisan food, drinks, produce and gifts, with many of the popular traders from the first festival last year returning.

Just like the previous two which were held in August and November, last year, the festival was extremely well attended.

Anthony Hughes, founder of Hucknall based brewery Lincoln Green, was one of the people to pitch the original idea for the festival to Ashfield District Council.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News yesterday, he said: "I would say quite clearly this has been the most successful one we've done. This is now the third food and drink festival and I would say it was at least a third more busy than either of the two previously.

"It was particularly busy from about 11am right the way through to 2pm where I've never seen the town so packed. And the great thing is the entertainment that's been put on near the church has really drawn people up towards the top end of the festival which means that those traders up there have been really busy as well, so it's been great.

"It's fantastic and it's all credit to Trevor Middleton and the Ashfield District Council markets team being so open minded to a suggestion from a local businessman that said wouldn't it be great if we did a food and drink festival in Hucknall and they said yes it would. So to see it and then to see it get bigger and bigger it's fantastic it's exactly what the town needs."

He confirmed that the food and drink festival will return to Hucknall next August. For more information about the festival, click here.
