A Hucknall bowls club is seeing an increase in numbers following a successful recruitment day during the May bank holiday.

Titchfield Park Bowls Club welcomed 36 new bowlers to its green during the 'Bowls' Big Weekend' event which took place on Monday 31 May. The day was part of a national initiative, run by Bowls England, designed to give people a chance to sample the game of bowls in order to help boost the sport's popularity.

Since the open day, a further nine people have been to try their hand at the sport. The experience has persuaded a significant number to return for additional coaching and the club is now anticipating adding up to 15 new members to its playing strength.

Committee Member Peter Dickens, said: "This is a good news story because this type of activity every year is enabling the Hucknall club to thrive and to buck the current trend of a seriously declining number of bowls clubs."
