A train travelling between Nottingham and Worksop has been hit by a projectile near Newstead Station this morning (Monday 20 June).

British Transport Police are dealing with the incident. In a statement, they said: "British Transport Police received a report of an object hitting a moving train near Newstead station at 11.50am today (20 June).

"The window of the rear cab was shattered, and thankfully no one on board sustained any injuries.

"The train is now being held nearby while officers carry out enquiries."

The incident bears an uncanny resemblance to a scene from the second episode of hit BBC drama Sherwood which aired last Tuesday evening (14 June). In the programme, an arrow was fired at a train near Newstead, narrowly missing the driver.

The train, the 11:25 service from Nottingham to Worksop had stopped most recently at Hucknall and was heading towards the next station, Newstead, when the incident happened.

Independent District Councillor David Hennigan was a passenger on the train. Speaking to Hucknall Nub News, he said: "As an Ashfield Councillor I was absolutely appalled at the thought that anybody was copying what they've seen on TV. But thankfully nobody was injured but it could easily have gone the other way."

Although the incident did cause delays to services, they are no longer affected, and a full service is now running.
