Two crews from Hucknall Fire Station attended a blaze at a farm in Blidworth yesterday (Tuesday 19 July) and worked through the night at the scene to extinguish and contain the fire.

Emergency services were first alerted to the incident yesterday afternoon at around 1:35.

As the scale of the fire became clear, 15 fire crews from both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services attended the scene.

It was quickly declared a major incident and local residents were evacuated for their safety.

When the direction of the wind changed just before 7pm, residents were allowed to return to their homes as the fire was then being blown towards main roads.

Late last night Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) issued the following update via social media: "Good progress is being made at the fire in Blidworth. Crews will be at the incident through the night, however, the fire is now surrounded. Thank you to our crews on scene and @DfrsNfrsControl for their hard work!"

Due to the heatwave, the service dealt with an 'exceptional amount of incidents around the county yesterday.

It came as temperatures soared to record highs across the UK, reaching 39 in Nottinghamshire and passing 40C in other regions.

According to NFRS the fire is now under control but some crews remain on the scene.

In a statement on social media, first thing this morning the service said: "Good morning! Update 6am: We still have five appliances currently at the incident in Blidworth. The fire is under control and crews are working hard to extinguish any hotspots that may appear. Let's hope the weather is on our side today, but we want to remind you all to stay safe outdoors."
