Work has started on the new swimming pool at Hucknall Leisure Centre this week.
The new teaching pool will be built alongside the centre's current pool and focus on providing swimming lessons to the Hucknall community.
Due for completion in early 2023, this is the latest development at Hucknall Leisure Centre following the opening of the new changing village and state of the art gym earlier in the year.
Councillor Rachel Madden, Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure & Wellbeing said: "We know (how) much Hucknall Leisure Centre is loved by the local community and as part of our investment in the centre we wanted to enhance the swimming facilities already available.
"Learning to swim is an invaluable life skill and we want as many children as possible to have the opportunity. This investment isn't just for the current generation but for generations to come. It is part of our commitment to provide high quality leisure facilities across in Hucknall."
Hucknall North Councillor John Wilmott said: "Ashfield District Council is investing more this year in Hucknall Leisure Centre than at any time since it was built. This has been a huge priority for me. At a time when other Councils are closing their Leisure Centres – we are doing the opposite."
Simon Fearn, Everyone Active's regional contract manager, said: "The new teaching pool is going to be a fantastic addition to Hucknall Leisure Centre and will allow us to increase our activity offering for the local community.
"A variety of recent upgrades, including the new gym and studios, have improved Hucknall beyond recognition and the state-of-the-art teaching pool will take the centre to the next level."
