Ashfield District Council could be presented with two petitions totalling more than 9,000 signatures and a cross-party motion, all calling for its draft local plan to be scrapped.

The controversial housing document, which lays out where 8,226 homes will be built between now and 2038, was met with a fierce backlash from residents and politicians after it was first revealed in October.

The Councillor behind the controversial Local Plan that proposes building 3000 homes on Whyburn Farm in Hucknall , which is green belt land, has defended the Plan but conceded that "I don't like it, I really don't like that so many people are upset about it."

Councillor Matthew Relf, who represents Sutton Junction and Harlow Wood for the Ashfield Independents, is the Portfolio Holder for Place, Planning and Regeneration at Ashfield District Council.

A café just outside Hucknall, staffed by local volunteers is arguably one of the area's hidden gems.

The Dynamo Café located in Bestwood Country Park, has been running since 2013, offering a wide selection of delicious homemade confections and hot beverages to those who happen upon it as they walk the park or those who have been visiting faithfully for years.

Poundland will open its doors on Hucknall High Street tomorrow (Thursday 2 November) following a full makeover of the premises which was previously a Fultons Foods store.

Poundland purchased the Barnsley-based frozen food specialist in October 2020 and is currently in the process of rolling out the next phase of its Diamond ICE project, bringing chilled and frozen food to another 50-plus stores.
