Hucknall Town beat Dunkirk to confirm playoff place
Hucknall Town guaranteed themselves a playoff place thanks to a 1-0 victory away at Dunkirk on Saturday (8 April).
Craig Westcarr's header from a Louis Tomlinson cross just before the hour mark proved the difference, and with other results going The Yellows' way, their place in the end of season playoffs was confirmed with one game remaining.
In an entertaining first half, it was the visitors who had the best of the early chances, with Westcarr putting a shot narrowly wide and Joe Ashurst coming close to a spectacular opener with a volley that zipped narrowly the wrong side of the post.
It wasn't all one way traffic though with Louis Kinnerley forced to make a sharp save in the Hucknall goal with just over half an hour gone.
Brad Lathall then tested the reflexes of Dunkirk's 'keeper with a low strike which he was more than equal to.
After a goalless first half it was a much cagier opening to the second half until Westcarr made the crucial breakthrough.
Hucknall came close to a second, seeing one effort cleared off the line but ultimately were forced to settle for a victory by the slenderest of margins.
They conclude their league season with a trip to Barrow Town next Saturday (15 April).
