Hucknall Town end regular league campaign with defeat but attention now turns to playoffs
Hucknall Town's Uhlsport United Counties Division One campaign ended in slightly underwhelming circumstances on Saturday (15 April) with a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at midtable Barrow Town.
With their playoff place already confirmed The Yellows were looking to close out the regular season with another victory as they went into the game boasting a seven match unbeaten run.
However, Jordan Holmes' goal on the hour mark was enough to deny Hucknall a satisfactory ending to their season.
Speaking to the club's official website after the game, Hucknall manager Andy Ingle said: "Not the finish to the league programme we wanted. It certainly looked like we were just going through the motions and one chance was all the opposition needed, we just didn't deal very well with what was needed to be done in front of us and we paid the price for it.
"At this point, to be over critical isn't going to help, the league is done and we move on. We now set our sights on the playoff place we have worked hard for all season. The things we have done well, we must now do them better if we are to be successful. It's one chance next Saturday and we must have no regrets and just go for it to deliver a performance worthy of all we know we are capable, in order to take us another step closer to promotion."
Hucknall Town's fourth place finish means they will play third place finishers Bourne Town in a one leg semi-final match on Saturday (22 April).
As Bourne finished the higher of the two in the table, they will have home advantage meaning Hucknall will have to make the 100-mile round trip to Lincolnshire next weekend.
