Year 11 students at Hucknall's National C of E Academy were celebrating this morning as they secured places at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre, local colleges, and apprenticeships.

The students collecting their results today have been awarded grades that were calculated using rigorous internal assessment and teacher assessments which have undergone extensive external quality assurance.

Ashfield District Council has launched its new housing strategy setting out how they will ensure Ashfield residents, which includes people in Hucknall, are living in, or can access, homes that are affordable, warm and safe.

The strategy will see a number of priorities delivered between now and 2023. The key priorities include preventing homelessness and rough sleeping, developing 100 new Council homes, and improving standards in the private rented sector. They are also focused on maintaining and improving Council homes, including their energy efficiency; providing excellent customer service to residents and using technology to deliver services more efficiently.

Year 13 students at The Holgate Academy in Hucknall were celebrating this morning as they received their A Level results at the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre, with students successfully progressing on to a variety of university courses and apprenticeships, as well as into employment.

This year's top performer, Eden Burch, achieved a hugely impressive set of results with four As in chemistry, biology, psychology and her extended project qualification. Eden will be heading to her first-choice, University of St Andrew's, to study neuroscience. Eden said: "Having joined Holgate in year 12 from another school, I have felt really supported - the teachers have been really flexible and have helped me achieve my excellent results, I am so pleased."

Ashfield District Council has been successful in its application to the Infrastructure Solutions for Zero Emission Vehicles competition.

Working in partnership with Cleanergy EV Ltd, DG:Cities, Royal Borough of Greenwich and Nottingham City Council, Ashfield District Council will receive £10,391 in funding as part of a project to support the transition to zero emission vehicles for Environment and Waste.

A mobile vaccination bus will visit Hucknall on Monday, 16th August, as attempts are made to ensure more of the town's residents are vaccinated against Covid-19.

Ashfield Independent Councillors have welcomed the imminent visit of the vaccination bus to Tesco Extra Car Park on Ashgate Road after local councillors, including Lee Waters, raised the issue of poor vaccination levels in the centre of Hucknall with health bosses.

Trustees of a local community centre are hoping to encourage businesses from surrounding areas to use the venue to host their classes by offering it free of charge whilst they get their ventures off the ground.

Gareth Johnston, who is a trustee of the Newstead Centre, is hoping to attract business owners from surrounding towns and villages, including Hucknall, to use the centre.

When Hucknall technician Katie Hufton spent her days in her sandwich shop dreaming of being a paramedic, she never thought that it would one day become a reality.

Katie, 48, thought that the job was out of reach for her and that the closest she would get to the ambulance service was chatting with East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) staff who popped in to grab a bite to eat.
