A Hucknall pub reopened its doors last week after undergoing a refurbishment worth over £250,000.

The Nabb Inn on Nabbs Lane, which is owned by Greene King, has been transformed as a reward for how successful the pub has been post-lockdown.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Assistant Manager Joel Wright said: "We had the outside only service, it was a task, it was definitely something new but we came through it with flying colours as a team. The amount of money we've been taking consistently since then has definitely led to the fact that they've invested in us.

"It was nice to get the recognition from the company to be fair, to say we like the job that you're doing with it, we've seen that you're taking the money, let's reward you with the refurb and it definitely does feel like a reward as well with how it's finished.

"I've worked here for five years. This has been the first time I've actually seen the pub change its format and it's definitely for the better. It was a bit dated. I think the way that they've brought it into the modern day it's perfect for what customers want. We're still a local pub without feeling like a down and dingy pub. It's looking good for the future."

When asked what the key to their recent success had been, Mr Wright had no hesitation in his answer: "Our staff. I'll always nail this down every time as our staff, we've got such a great team behind us, they're all so grounded, so down to earth, we treat customers as if we're inviting them into our home as opposed to treating them as another bit of money in the till. We know everyone personally; I think that's a nice little touch."

The pub now boasts heated outdoor areas as well as a children's play area which makes it a very family friendly venue.

"Knowing the other pubs in the area, there's not many other pubs that have got family friendly areas and obviously we've got a little bit of a play area out front, in summer that will be packed out to the rafters."

Mr Wright also credits Pub General Manager Stefan Blachnio with the pub's renaissance.

"It's since Stefan's been in place that we've gone from strength to strength. It's been really nice to have a manager that's been committed not only to the customers but to the staff as well. He's a good manager to work for and the customers love him as well."

Since the refurbishment was completed last week, there have been a number of new faces trying out the pub for the first time.

Mr Wright added: "We're aware that we've got a lot more houses popping up in our area. We always want to tap into that and make new regulars as well as keep our old ones happy."
