A flat that became a 'magnet for antisocial behaviour' and drug activity has been closed.

Frightened neighbours at the block in Spring Street, Hucknall, reported drug offences, noise nuisance, fly-tipping and criminal damage linked to the address.

Nottinghamshire Police worked in partnership with Ashfield District Council to gather evidence about what was happening and take decisive action.

A closure order was granted at Mansfield Magistrates' Court on 16 February 2023.

The order, granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will remain in force for three months and will prevent anyone from accessing the address.

Breaches of the order may result in prosecution proceedings which could result in a fine or imprisonment.

Inspector Jon Hewitt, district commander for Ashfield, said: "The behaviour of people in and around this property caused considerable distress to neighbouring residents and was totally unacceptable. Working with our partners at the council we have now ensured that decisive action has been taken.

"The residents living in this area were clearly in need of help, and I am pleased we have been able to give it to them. This is one of several local properties we have helped to close in the last six months and likely will not be the last. So if anyone else is living in fear of their neighbours I would urge them to let us know about it so we can start to take action."

Antonio Taylor, Community Safety Manager at Ashfield District Council, said: "I would like to thank all the witnesses and officers involved in this case to help obtain the order. The three-month period will allow respite to local residents who will hopefully no longer have to suffer ongoing anti-social behaviour in connection with the address. I hope this sends a clear message to residents that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Ashfield.''
