Hucknall's Titchfield Park has been selected to host Ashfield District Council's official Coronation Event in May.

The park, popular with local residents, celebrated its centenary last year with the Council organising a community party in the grounds to mark the milestone.

This year, on Saturday 6 May, Titchfield Park will once again take centre stage as the district's residents will be invited to gather there between 10am and 3pm to commemorate the Coronation of Charles III.

Planning is already in progress for the big party. Next week, the Council is meeting the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and his office to go through plans announced at a meeting of Ashfield District Council's Cabinet this week.

These include a family fun day with a mixture of activities. There will also be a live broadcast of the ceremony. The Council is also looking at hosting live entertainment and performances from local acts and artists.

Families will be encouraged to bring along a picnic and there are plans for children's entertainment on the day such as face-painting and garden games.

This news should be well received by locals who were disappointed that Hucknall was seemingly snubbed by the Council when it planned events for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee last year. Instead, it selected venues in Kirkby as well as Selston Country Park to host community celebrations.

This time, Hucknall appears to have been the Council's first choice when selecting a location for the party.

Councillor Dave Shaw, who represents Hucknall West for the Ashfield Independents, said: "We're delighted to be hosting the official Council event in the heart of Hucknall. The Coronation of King Charles is a huge hallmark event and it's only right that we celebrate at Titchfield Park, Hucknall. We can't wait to host the biggest event in the District to mark this important event."

More information about the event will be released in due course.
