Ashfield Film Festival is still taking place as planned this weekend.

There had been speculation that the event, which is being held at The Arc Cinema in Hucknall, would be cancelled following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

However, after a meeting of senior staff at the venue yesterday, the decision was made to continue the four-day event, which began on Thursday and will conclude tomorrow (Sunday 11 September).

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, cinema manager Mark Gallagher, said: "We had a meeting and discussed whether or not it would be disrespectful to continue but decided to keep it running in case people are looking for a form of escapism or light relief after the sad events of this week."

Tonight, sees the cinema show Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back. Before the film there will be a chance to be photographed with two stormtroopers, Darth Vader and Chewbacca. There will also be a company that makes ultra-realistic lightsabers, Parsec Sabers ,demonstrating their products and giving customers the opportunity to buy them and have their photograph taken holding them. As always, residents without tickets who have children that love Star Wars, will be able to join in with the fun by putting a contribution into one of the cinema's charity buckets.

There is also a Disney pyjama party with each screen showing a different film. There will be a sing-along with one of the characters from each film before the movie starts.

Tomorrow will be sing-along-Sunday with a selection of four musicals and the audience will be encouraged to join in with the songs throughout the screening.

There is also a triple header of Back to The Future films. To celebrate this, a DeLorean will be parked outside the cinema and ticketholders will get the opportunity to have a professional photograph taken of them next to the car.
