A local male voice choir is holding a concert in Hucknall next month and will donate the proceeds towards raising funds for the daughter of Notts County's head groundsman who has a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Leila Hallam, the seven- year-old daughter of Matt, who has worked at Meadow Lane for three and a half years, was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in October.

Bestwood male voice choir together with Rolls Royce Ladies Choir will hold a concert at Central Methodist Church on Baker Street in Hucknall, on Saturday 12 March at 7:15pm.

John Pritchard, a member of both the choir and the church as well as being a Notts County season ticket holder is one of the key people behind the event.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, he said: "We'd already got a concert (planned) which we have every year for our founder, Len Hogg. It seemed an ideal opportunity, with my interest in Notts, and they were looking to raise money for Leila Hallam the head groundsman's daughter, and therefore we're doing this concert, a concert in Calverton and a concert at Christchurch in Chilwell. All the proceeds are going to the fund."

"It's rhabdomyosarcoma which is a rare form of cancer and unfortunately it's that rare they haven't even been able to trace the source of the tumour which to me seems unbelievable in this day and age.

Speaking about the impact the story has had on him, Mr Pritchard added: "Having had a very rare cancer myself, and I'm coming towards the end of my life, but this girl is at the beginning of hers, it really struck several of us actually, so it isn't solely me, it's several people within the choir."

Tickets are priced at £10 each. As the event is likely to be popular, people are advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment as there is no guarantee that there will be any tickets for sale on the door.
