Council tax rebate scam: Hucknall residents warned not to give out bank details
Ashfield District Council has issued a warning to residents across the District, including in Hucknall, about a scam involving the £150 council tax rebate.
It was announced earlier this year by Chancellor Rishi Sunak that a £150 council tax discount would be given to residents living in bands A to D, this equates to almost 90 percent of Nottinghamshire homes.
Last week the District Council urged residents to sign up to pay their council tax via Direct Debit as it would ensure people receive their £150 payment quickly and easily, straight into their bank account.
Today they issued the following statement on their Facebook page: "We have been made aware that some residents have been receiving phone calls and emails for their bank details so the Council Tax £150 Rebate can be paid.
"Please note that this is a scam as we do not request bank details in this way. Please do not give any bank details out.
"If you pay via Direct Debit the £150 rebate will be paid directly into your bank account. Payments will be made during April.
"If you do not pay by Direct Debit, we will write to you during April with details of how you can apply for the payment.
"Please share this with any friends and family that are not on social media."
