A fire has caused devastating damage to a Hucknall pub that only reopened ten days ago.
The blaze broke out at Green Dragon on Watnall Road at 7:20 this morning, it began in the smoke shelter on the side of the building.
As well as causing significant damage to the side of the building it has severely damaged the pool room at the back of the pub too.
No one was injured, largely due to a quick thinking of an off duty firefighter who had been in a nearby gym at the time when he saw the blaze. He managed to alert the tenants living above the pub which led to them safely evacuating before the fire became more intense.
Firefighters attended the incident, extinguished the fire and damped down the scene which took around two hours in total.
According to the manager the pub is full of smoke and she has confirmed that there is no way that the pub will be open today (Monday 12 June).
Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Chan described herself as frustrated and angry.
"We are waiting for the police to view the CCTV to see if the fire was accidental or not.
"We were trying to bring the pub back to life, which we did at the weekend, and then this is the result."
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We received a call at 7.20am on 12 June 2023 to the Green Dragon on Watnall Road. A fire engine from both Hucknall and Stockhill attended the incident. The fire was in the rear of the premises in a smoking shed."
