Yesterday's constant bombardment of rainfall once again exposed Hucknall's potential to flood.

Water was seen streaming out of a drain on Ashgate Road near Tesco and flowing downhill onto the road. It made part of the pavement unusable and caused the road to become more treacherous as the day wore on.

Nearby, on Thoresby Dale there was a similar story as the road struggled to deal with the amount of rainwater that it had been exposed to.

This is not the first time the road has had issues with flooding. At the end of last month residents found themselves battling to stop flood water entering their homes following intense downpours.

The situation left locals furious as Nottinghamshire County Council spent £430,000 on a flood alleviation scheme which was completed in 2018.

It had been designed to prevent a repeat of the stress and heartache that homeowners experienced in 2013, when flash-flooding caused extensive damage to properties on the road and left some temporarily homeless.

Some Hucknall residents posted videos on social media of the chaos on Ashgate Road and there were a number of sarcastic and frustrated comments, about the situation which keeps arising when the town experiences intense spells of wet weather.

Nottinghamshire County Council has been approached for comment.
