The new Chief Fire Officer for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) has now officially taken up his role.

Craig Parkin took up the post at the start of this week having been promoted from Deputy Chief Fire Officer.

He was appointed to the role by the Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire and Rescue Authority back in December last year.

The new chief replaces outgoing chief John Buckley, who has retired after serving for over 25 years with NFRS.

Chief Fire Officer Craig Parkin, who has risen through the ranks at the Service since joining as a firefighter 26 years ago, said: "I'm delighted to get started and continue with John's exemplary work over the years to do his upmost for our communities.

"I'd like to thank him for his incredible leadership, which was duly noted when he was named in the Queen's New Year Honours list last year.

"Thank you for everything John, and we will continue to do everything we can to help the county be as safe as it possibly can be."

Outgoing chief John Buckley said: "I have had an incredible career with the fire service and I've worked with so many committed and dedicated people.

"I will look back on my time very fondly and wish Craig and the service every success for the future."
