The work that Hucknall Nub News does to provide hyperlocal content to a its audience was shared with a church women's group in the town on Wednesday (8 March).
Regional Editor, Tom Surgay, who launched the Hucknall arm of Nub News in June 2021, was invited to speak to Central Methodist's Phoenix group and share his experience of the industry.
Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, one of the group's members, Rosie Hayler, said: "Tom came to talk to our women's group about his work as a journalist for Hucknall Nub News. It was fascinating to hear how he got started, including his ambition to get into journalism. He covered many aspects of his work- different ways of collecting his items, how he manages reporting restrictions, maintaining variety etc. His delivery kept our attention, and we were sorry when he had to finish."
The group which is based at the church on Baker Street with which it is connected, meets twice a month for fellowship and fun. It has enjoyed a boost in popularity post-lockdown as its numbers have increased.
As well as socialising together, they also raise money for charity through activities such as collections and bring and buy sales. This year Phoenix's chosen charity is Hucknall Food Bank which is run by Churches Together and is based on Vine Terrace.
On the opportunity to speak about Nub News with members of the local community, Tom Surgay said: "I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to members of Phoenix and was genuinely flattered by the invitation! Nub News as a company prides itself in being community centred, so what better way to back that up than sharing details about what we do with the people that live in our towns?"
