A number of Hucknall pubs and bars are working together to put on a range of events this weekend (Friday 10 December-Sunday 12 December) for the community.

'Hucknall's Big Festive Weekend' aims to promote the town's night life and encourage people to support their local venues.

Venues across the town will be hosting live music, quizzes, discos, DJs, karaoke and much more. Attendees are being encouraged to wear Christmas jumpers to give the whole weekend a more festive feel.

The event was thought up by Damien O'Connor the owner of 'Damo's' on Annesley Road. He previously helped organise Hucknall's Big Night Out which was held in September 2017 and involved a number of venues putting on themed events and entertainment throughout the same day.

However, evolving the event so it runs across a whole weekend, he feels gives the venues more flexibility.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News Mr O'Connor said: "Offering a whole weekend, some venues might only have something on a Friday night. They would have felt they would be missing out or shifting their schedule to suit it but over the whole weekend it's ideal because every venue can get involved.

"We need to stick together, I don't see other venues as competition I see them as a help not a hindrance, if Hucknall venues can work together and promote a safe drinking circuit, a lively, thriving circuit, then the more the merrier, it's better really."

Mr O'Connor also explained why he'd chosen this weekend for the event: "With everything that's gone on with Covid and stuff, we wanted to give everyone a chance to go out and enjoy themselves this Christmas.

"We don't know what's round the corner, watching the news it sometimes is a bit doom and gloom with potential restrictions being put back in place in hospitality, which I think I can safely say for all landlords we don't want. It's one of our most lucrative times of the year and we need to try and recoup our losses from the last 18 months."
