A Hucknall resident who cut the ribbon at the Nottingham memory walk has raised over £100 for the Alzheimer's Society.
David Smith completed the 6km walk with his wife, Amy, one-year-old daughter Annie, his Mum Jayne, and his brother Luke.
He was taking part in the event in memory of his Grandad, John, who was diagnosed with dementia and passed away in March this year, and for his Auntie, Susan, who at the age of 61 has early onset dementia.
Of the event, Mr Smith said: "It was good, a lot of people were doing it. It was just a nice day, it was a nice atmosphere which you didn't expect given the nature of what it was for."
"We were just all shattered afterwards, (especially) when you have to carry your one-year old halfway round because she doesn't want to be in the pushchair but she doesn't want to walk either. It tipped it down with rain but it didn't seem to matter; they put on a good event."
Mr Smith was selected to cut the ribbon along with Nottingham born actress Vicky McClure who is an Alzheimer's Society Ambassador. However, her role was slightly different to normal as she was having to adhere to strict social distancing rules due to her current filming commitments.
On cutting the ribbon, Mr Smith added: "It was nice of them (the organisers) to think we'll get him to do it. Mum came up with me, so we did it together with Vicky, and I think it was her nephew, which was good."
Mr Smith's sponsorship page is still open, so if you would like to, you can sponsor him by following this link .
