A Hucknall man has received a prestigious award for his significant contribution to the work of the campaign for real ale (CAMRA).

Andrew Ludlow was given a golden award in the people category, as the organisation gave out a raft of accolades in celebration of its 50 years of existence.

The nominations were opened up to members and non-members alike last year, 50 years since CAMRA began but the winners of the people's golden award were not announced until recently.

Mr Ludlow has been a member of Nottingham CAMRA since it was first formed 50 years ago. He has held several important positions within the branch over the years including treasurer, chairman and secretary, the latter of which he still holds today. This means that in total he has been a branch officer for a remarkable 38 years and counting.

Andrew has volunteered at every Nottingham Beer and Cider Festival since the first one in 1976, mostly serving as part of the organising team, which he remains a member of today. He played a major role in setting up the LocAle scheme to promote local breweries in 2007, a campaign that was so successful that it was adopted nationally and still runs today.

He has also been responsible for several initiatives over the years, most recently the Back to the Pub scheme to encourage customers to return to the pub after the covid lockdowns and the Adopt A Pub scheme under which members adopt local pubs in order that Nottingham CAMRA remains in touch with them and promotes any events they may hold as well as ensuring their What Pub entry remains up to date.

Branch Chairman, Steve Westby, said: "Nottingham CAMRA prides itself in ensuring that every pub in the branch has a photograph on the website whatpub.com and if you take a look at many of these you will see a folding bike somewhere in the photo, the one Andrew cycles round on to take the pictures!

"It is for this remarkable service and devotion to the real ale cause that Andrew was given a gold award by CAMRA nationally as part of the campaign's 50-year celebrations."
