Nottinghamshire County Council's recycling and waste contractor, Veolia has announced that they will double their donation for every Notts Recycles Pledge made, during the final week of January.

This month, residents from Hucknall and across the county of Nottinghamshire have been encouraged to make a Notts Recycles pledge online.

In return for each pledge made during January, Veolia has donated £1 to the council's chosen charity: When you Wish Upon a Star.

However, during the final week of this year's Reduce, Reuse, Recycle campaign they will double their donation from £1 to £2 for every Notts Recycles Pledge made.

Making a Notts Recycles pledge is a commitment to make one small change to your reduce, reuse or recycling habits.

Almost 400 Nottinghamshire residents have already made a pledge this year. To join them simply click here. It takes just a few seconds to make a pledge and raise money for a local charity helping to grant the wishes of children living with life threatening illnesses.

Veolia and Nottinghamshire County Council are asking all participants to share their pledge online using the hashtag #NottsRecycles to encourage more people to take part before the campaign ends on 31 January.

Councillor Mike Quigley, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council said: "I am delighted that Veolia are doubling the donations made for each pledge in the final week of the Notts Recycles Pledge campaign.

"Please, if you haven't already, do consider signing up. It's simple to do and now £2 per pledge will go towards raising money for my chosen charity – When you wish upon a star. Every pledger will also be in with a chance of winning an eco hamper!"

Lea Hawkes, General Manager Veolia Nottinghamshire said: "We are, once again, very proud to be running this campaign and raising money for local charity. If everyone could pledge to reduce, reuse and recycle as much of the waste that is produced at home it will not only help us to recycle more for Nottinghamshire but also raise money for this very worthwhile cause. Now that we have doubled our donation we can make an even bigger impact with every pledge made."

Alexa Wigfield, Regional Fundraiser for When You Wish Upon a Star said: "We are delighted to be part of Veolia's Notts Recycles campaign this year. Every penny we receive from pledges will go towards brightening the lives of children living with life threatening illnesses. We are truly grateful to both Councillor Quigley and Veolia for their support of When You Wish Upon a Star."
