A group litter picking event scheduled to take place in Hucknall this Saturday (11 March) has been cancelled due to the weather.

The Hucknall Wombles had organised a group pick on The Ranges in Hucknall but due to steady snowfall which began on Wednesday, continued into Thursday (9 March), and with more forecast today (Friday 10 March), the decision was made last night to call off the event.

Taking to Facebook, Matt Williams who founded Hucknall Wombles in 2021, posted the following: "The litter picking event this Saturday on the Ranges has been cancelled due to the weather, sorry folks but it's just not safe."

Mr Williams began the group after becoming a keen litter picker during the Coronavirus lockdown whilst out taking his daily exercise with his dogs.

Once restrictions were eased, he reached out to local residents to join him, and community group picks now take place in and around Hucknall on a regular basis.
