Hucknall's Titchfield Park wins Green Flag Award again
A Hucknall park has again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award.
Titchfield Park is one of six parks across the Ashfield district to receive the award.
The other five recipients are: Brierley Forest Park; Kingsway Park; Sutton Lawn; Portland Park; and Selston Country Park.
Administered by 'Keep Britain Tidy', The Green Flag Award scheme 'recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world'.
Announcing the outcome on social media, Ashfield District Council posted: "We are proud to announce that six parks across Ashfield have once again received the Green Flag Award.
"Leader of the Council Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Cllr Samantha Deakin Executive Lead for Parks and Cllr Rachel Madden Executive Lead for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing kicked off Love Parks Week with a visit to Portland Park in Kirkby, to deliver the new award and raise the flag to celebrate the occasion.
"The awards recognised the standard of management and upkeep of parks and green spaces and is the international standard for quality. By the end of the week all six parks will have the new flag and awards."
Titchfield Park, which was created when the Duke of Portland gave 11 acres of land, to the town of Hucknall, to mark the 21st birthday of his son, The Marquis of Titchfield, before being expanded and developed by the Hucknall Miners Welfare Committee, was officially opened in July 1922.
Thus, in June, Ashfield District Council held centenary celebrations in the park for the community which featured live music, children's entertainment, and a number of stalls. The event was well attended by hundreds of locals despite drizzly weather throughout the day.
