A 36-year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of burglary and causing grievous bodily harm at an address in Hucknall.

Officers were called to Elizabeth Close, which is just off Nabbs Lane, at around 8.50am on 4 July 2021 after a report of a masked man barging into the house and threatening a victim with a knife.

A man suffered a cut to his cheek before the suspect left the scene. The victim was treated at hospital with non-life altering injuries.

The arrest was one of two that occurred in the early hours of this morning as Nottinghamshire Police's drive to reduce burglary continued

Over five fewer homes a day were burgled in Nottinghamshire in the year to 31 December 2020, compared to the previous year, according to the figures from the Office for National Statistics. This is a drop of 1,978 burglaries (down 25 per cent).

The force has two dedicated burglary teams operating across the city and county who are supported in tackling burglary by response and neighbourhood officers, as well as a burglary enforcement Special Constable team.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Dumbrell, of Nottinghamshire Police, is leading the investigation.

He said: "Victims in both incidents are clearly shaken and we are doing all we can to support their welfare.

"We are committed to driving down this type of crime. We [sic] dedicated burglary teams operating across the city and county.

"Burglary has a detrimental impact on victims both financially but also mentally as well. No one has the right to barge into another person's home and act in a threatening and violent manner and we won't tolerate this behaviour in Nottinghamshire.

"Knife crime is taken extremely seriously and we work tirelessly day-in day-out to tackle the issue, raise awareness of the dangers and prevent people from becoming involved in knife crime in the first place.

"We're pleased we have now arrested two people (across the two incidents) through our enquiries and we will continue to work with the victims to ensure they're supported going forward."
