Parents with babies urged to take caution at Hucknall Aldi after father's trolley seat scare
By Tom Surgay 5th Aug 2021
A father of an eight-week-old baby is warning other parents with young children to be careful when selecting a trolley at a Hucknall supermarket.
Callum Collins was left angry and frustrated today when he felt the severe temperature of the baby seat due to the trolley being left out in the sun for hours.
Mr Collins wanted a trolley with a baby seat so he could ensure his son was safe and secure as he shopped. However, he found the trolley storage area to be a mess and that a lot of trolleys had been left out in the heat of the day. Only one trolley with a baby seat was still in the shelter and was inaccessible as it was behind all the other trolleys. This left him with having to choose one of the trolleys that had been in the sun.
Before putting his son in the baby seat, Mr Collins touched the seat to see how long it had been out in the open for and found it to be extremely hot. He is relieved that he thought to check this before putting his son in the seat but is worried that there may be other parents who may not have the time to do this and that a baby could end up being severely burnt as a consequence.
He said: "It's hard enough getting a child's seat trolley out of the mess of their trolley park as it is. The fact that you have to resort to picking one that's been in the sun is really bad. And then you're going to be in a rush and you're not going to think of touching that seat to see if it's going to be too hot for your child. Thankfully I did because if I'd have put him in there it could have burnt him or anything. It was hot enough for me to take my hand off it and think wow that's really hot."
Mr Collins put a blanket on the seat to protect his son and then took the trolley to the freezer section to aid the speed of the seat cooling down.
He did raise the issue with a member of staff who listened to his concerns but then returned to his job without advising of any action that would be taken, which has left Mr Collins feeling frustrated.
"It's not the first time I've had to complain about the trolleys being a mess, the fact that there was the heat problem as well is just twice as bad."
Hucknall Nub News have contacted Aldi for comment and are awaiting a response.
