Ashfield District Council has announced plans for a return of the bandstand on Titchfield Park in Hucknall.

The plans were revealed at a meeting of Ashfield District Council's Cabinet.  The work will be completed within three years as the Council plans to find the funding for this and other improvements across the town.

They form the centre piece of the Ashfield Independent plans to improve open spaces and parks in the town. The idea for a return of the bandstand came from late councillor Jim Blagden alongside local residents.

Other plans announced include improvements to Hucknall High Street to B&M, a Titchfield Park Management Plan, improvements to the play area on Washdyke Rec, an outdoor gym on Albert Street Rec, and improvements to Nabbs Lane Park as well as the proposed bandstand on Titchfield Park.

Councillor John Wilmott, a member of Ashfield District Council's Cabinet, told the meeting: "As a Council, we are determined to continue to invest in Hucknall's parks and open spaces. We've already made huge improvements to parks like Titchfield Park with a new play area and will make other improvements in our town.

"Last year, we celebrated 100 years of our wonderful park. We are delighted to announce plans for a bandstand – which will form the centre piece of our continuing improvements. Bands used to come from across the country in the 1930s to compete on the bandstand. We believe that its return will be an extremely popular addition to our destination park."

Councillor Lee Waters said: "The bandstand was the idea of our friend, my mentor - the late Jim Blagden and residents. This is something that is being championed by Hucknall's Ashfield Independent councillors Trevor Locke, Nick Parvin, Dave Shaw, John Wilmott and myself.

"Residents have told us loud and clear that they want to see another bandstand on our popular park. We will make it happen for Jim, in tribute to Jim and ensure that there is more live entertainment for Hucknall residents to enjoy on this beautiful park."
