Tributes have flooded in for Hucknall resident and non-league football enthusiast Malcolm Storer who died in the early hours of this morning (Friday 4 January) after a short illness.

Mr Storer, or Malc as he was known to his friends, was a well-known figure in the grassroots footballing community and would attend numerous non-league fixtures a week.

He ran his own blog called 'On The Road' which detailed the fixtures and results of non-league teams playing in a wide range of East Midlands based divisions.

An array of non-league clubs, managers and players paid tribute to Malc on Twitter with the phrase 'RIP Malc' even trending in the United Kingdom at just before 10am this morning.

Hucknall Town Football Club tweeted: "Everyone at the club is saddened to hear of the passing of Malcolm Storer. A regular at our matches and an all round lovely person. RIP and our thoughts go out to his family and friends."

The club's current assistant manager and former player Michael Banister, who was coached by Mr Storer as a youngster at Hucknall Sports, tweeted: "Such a sad day. Started my football journey with malc [sic] at the mighty Hucknall sports over 30years ago.. always a gent and will be sorely missed by everyone who's crossed paths..  rest easy my friend 🥹😢💔"

Linby Colliery Welfare Football Club tweeted: "RIP Malc Storer @ontheroadblog One of the best. A true gentleman who loved the grass roots game. Our deepest sympathies go out to all his family and friends 🥲"

Tributes were not restricted to those based in and around Hucknall as football clubs from across Nottinghamshire expressed their sadness at the passing of Malc and shared their fond memories of him.

Basford United, who play three levels higher up the football pyramid than Hucknall Town, tweeted: "Everyone at Basford United Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Malcolm Storer.

"Malcolm was a season ticket holder at Greenwich Avenue, a passionate groundhopper and, most importantly, our friend.

"Rest well, Malc. Thank you for everything you have done."

West Bridgford FC tweeted: "Awful news this morning regarding the passing of Malcolm Storer.

"A lovely man, with a real passion for football that helped many people through his fixtures and results blog. Will be a big loss to local football. RIP Malc".

Hucknall Nub News sends our condolences to all of Malc's friends and family.
