Hucknall Town notched up their second successive pre-season victory at the weekend with a 3-2 victory over Linby Colliery Welfare FC at Watnall Road on Saturday (9 July).
Goals from Craig Westcarr, new signing Kieran Knight, and Joe Butler were enough to see The Yellows overcome their spirited local neighbours.
Westcarr opened the scoring 19 minutes in after great work from Butler who produced a sublime piece of control to tame a long pass before beating three Linby defenders and squaring for his strike partner to stroke the ball into the net.
Linby weren't behind for long and levelled just before the half hour mark against the run of play. A goalmouth scramble following a free kick led to the ball being turned home and cancelling out Hucknall's early lead.
The scores remained level for much of the match until a manic last ten minutes saw three goals.
Knight kept his composure to slot home and put Hucknall back into the lead after being played in by Butler who then helped himself to a goal to seemingly put the match beyond doubt at 3-1.
However, Linby pulled one back late on to create a slightly tense finish but Hucknall had enough to see them off and record a deserved victory.
This win followed an impressive midweek 3-0 win away at step five side Eastwood CFC.
With a new manager at the helm after Andy Ingle replaced Andy Graves who stepped down at the end of last season, and a move to The RM Stadium on Aerial Way set for October there is a huge sense of optimism and excitement around the club ahead of the season.
The new campaign gets underway on Saturday 30 July with an away trip to Holwell Sports.
