Hucknall Town captain Aaron Short on playoff final: 'This is what you play football for'
Hucknall Town captain Aaron Short has described the club's upcoming playoff final as 'what we play all season for'.
The Yellows travel to Leicestershire to take on Birstall United tomorrow (Saturday 29 April) at their Meadow Lane ground following a dramatic win on penalties over Bourne Town last weekend.
Now, the club have an opportunity to clinch promotion with victory over the team which finished the regular Uhlsport United Counties Division One season in second position.
Short recognises the enormity of tomorrow's match but says the players are confident heading into the fixture.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "The squad is full of confidence for Saturday. The mood in the camp is great and we all know we can go and do it. But we also understand the amount of pressure that's on us. As much as everyone would be happy we got to the playoff final, we are here now and this one game will change whether we play step five or step six football next season. It's not just massive for the lads, it's huge for the club and everyone that's involved in the club, the fans and the management committee; so it's a big game.
"We will go into this match exactly the same way as we have other matches, same warm-up, same routine and change nothing. It's worked for us so far so we will just do the basic stuff. There will be nerves, but if you are not nervous in these types of games then you shouldn't be playing football. It's what we play all season for. These types of games don't come regularly in your career. The focus is on Saturday and we are going in full of confidence. This is what you play football for."
The club has confirmed that regardless of the result, the squad will return to The RM Stadium after the match where the Aerial suite will be open for everyone until midnight.
