Hucknall Town manager Andy Ingle was visibly disappointed in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday's 3-2 home defeat to Dunkirk.
The Yellows started poorly conceding after just three minutes and could have been further behind at halftime had it not been for the woodwork and a smart save from goalkeeper Louis Kinnerley.
The second half did see an upturn in performance but a screamer of a strike from Lewis Wilcox gave the visitors a two goal cushion, meaning Hucknall faced a real uphill struggle to get anything out of the game.
They did threaten to rescue a point thanks to a Callum Clarke goal but when Dunkirk added a third the game looked beyond them.
Cayne Maxwell's very late strike did give the home fans a glimmer of hope but there wasn't enough time for them to salvage a point from what was at times a quite scrappy affair.
Ingle spoke exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, just minutes after the final whistle. When asked how he felt about the result, he said: "I can't put it into words. Gutted, happy with the fightback towards the end but we've got to be better than that.
"We made our own problems tonight, early goal, couldn't settle, ball retention was poor for what I expect of the team, mistakes just pure mistakes, it's hard to take if I'm honest.
"We're causing our own problems at the minute and to be fair we've done that in the previous two games but we've kind of got away with it with a draw and a win, it's not something we can't fix and it's just a matter of work.
"I'm not going to say too much against the lads, just how much they've taken on board, how much they're backing me, they believe in what we're trying to do, we've got a plan, it's not going to happen overnight. I'm hoping the fans took heart in us not giving up."
The match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Keiron Lane who was stretchered off with what was later confirmed as a broken tibia.
The extent of the injury wasn't known at the time of the interview but speaking about the incident Ingle added: "It's not looking very good. For however long we lose him it's going to be a loss because he's been one of the finds that we've had pre-season. He's been standout every time we've played him, everywhere we've played him he's been excellent.
"The thing is with Laney he gives you 110% and he was just never going to pull out of that tackle."
Lane's long lay-off adds to Hucknall's injury crisis with Sam Simms, Ollie Brown, and Jamie Crawford also currently on the side-lines.
However, Ingle stated that he was hopeful of being able to add players to the squad in time for their trip to Lincolnshire to face Bourne Town on Saturday (13 August).
