Hucknall Town are ready for the official start of a new era at the football club as they prepare to play their very first competitive fixture at their new ground.

The Yellows take on Harrowby United later today (Saturday 7 January) at The RM Stadium on Aerial Way. The Uhlsport United Counties Division One clash kicks off at 3pm.

The ground was officially opened last month by Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough and was due to stage two league fixtures before Christmas but Hucknall were twice thwarted by the weather as a frozen pitch caused the games to be postponed.

However, today the long wait is set to finally be ended with no pitch inspection anticipated despite heavy rain hitting the town throughout the morning.

Andy Ingle, Hucknall Town's First Team manager is eager for the team to get the first game under their belt.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "After the club's official opening night, which was a great evening for all concerned, with a fabulous turn out which was a testament to the hard work from everyone involved on the Management Committee in getting it over the line and well worth the wait in the end; we followed that with the anticipation of games being played before Christmas and that was something to look forward to, especially on the back of our long run of away games, which finished with the Radford win.

"Unfortunately, the weather put pay to that, and no competitive games were able to be played and we were only able to train to keep the lads ticking over".

"We are now looking forward to a run of home games in which we welcome Harrowby as our first visitors for this Saturday and we are hoping for a good performance to start the new year. We are now at the halfway point of the season with all to play for."

"We look forward to seeing the supporters when we walk out onto the new pitch; a new home and a new beginning".

The new clubhouse and catering facilities will be open from 1pm for drinks and food. Entry is £6 for adults with concessions £4 and £2 for U16s. A special match day programme is also available for £2.

At the game, there will be a collection and a minute's applause to honour Hucknall resident and non-league enthusiast Malcolm Storer, described as 'a friend of the club', who sadly passed away this week after a short illness.
