Hucknall Town's final ever competitive fixture at Watnall Road ended in a 2-0 defeat as they were knocked out of the Notts Senior Cup by Basford United last night (Wednesday 19 October).
Goals from Tyreace Palmer and Anthony Dwyer sent the visitors into the third round of the competition and prevented the home fans from being able to celebrate one last victory at the club's home of 79 years.
The stadium will be demolished in the next few months with The Yellows set to move to a purpose built ground, The RM Stadium, just across the road on Aerial Way.
The opening date of their new home is yet to be confirmed but is expected to take place either in late November or early December. Until then, the club face a run of seven consecutive away games.
It was a scrappy first half with few clear cut chances but with just over five minutes until half-time good work from Declan Dunn saw him beat his man and slide the ball into the path of Palmer who rolled the ball into an empty net.
The game flowed a little better in the second half and just over five minutes after the restart Dwyer doubled the visitors' lead with a powerful strike.
Hucknall rallied late on as they searched for a goal back. Substitute Finlay Whyte came the closest heading a Kieran Knight cross goalwards but it was well saved by the Basford goalkeeper.
In the end, the three tiers between the two sides showed as Basford ran out deserved winners in a competition that they will have aspirations of winning.
Hucknall return to league action this weekend as they travel to sixth placed Newark Town on Saturday.
