Hucknall's Joe Worrall named Nottingham Forest captain ahead of club's first Premier League campaign for 23 years
Hucknall born footballer Joe Worrall has been named Nottingham Forest's club captain for the forthcoming season.
Worrall, who played junior football for Hucknall Sports before coming through Forest's academy, will skipper the club's first Premier League campaign for 23 years.
The 25-year-old stepped in as captain in the second half of last year after an injury to Lewis Grabban.
With Grabban departing The City Ground this summer, Worrall has now been handed the armband on a permanent basis.
Speaking to Forest's official website, he said: "First of all, I'd like to thank Steve Cooper and the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity.
"To be given the chance to captain my hometown club means so much to me and it's an absolute honour, and I say that with all my heart.
"All I've ever wanted to do since I was a kid was to play for Forest, so to captain them too is a dream come true. I've been here 7-8 years and worked under some great captains, and I know what's demanded of us."
Speaking to Forest's official website, Manager Steve Cooper said: "Joe is a tremendous lad and really embodies everything we're looking to create here at the club.
"Since the day I walked into the building it was clear Joe has the respect of the dressing room and his performances on the pitch are full of drive, leadership and quality which is something that inspires those around him.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to grow and flourish in his new role ahead of what will be an exciting season for the club."
Forest begin their Premier League campaign tomorrow (Saturday 6 August) away at Newcastle United; the game kicks off at 3pm.
