Students at Hucknall's National Church of England Academy were celebrating this morning as they received their A Level results at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre at the end of a difficult year for all students and staff.

The students had to contend with remote learning and internal assessments but their hard work and resilience through these challenging times has culminated in an excellent set of outcomes.

The Ashfield Independents are calling for Hucknall Library to provide more opportunities for unemployed Hucknall residents to retrain as well as more job centre services.

This comes on the back of the scale of child poverty in places like Hucknall and Ashfield being revealed. The figures for claimants of free school meals showed a dramatic rise in North Nottinghamshire. As of July 2021, there are 5244 claimants in the Ashfield District compared to 4187 at the start of the COVID pandemic in March 2020.

A Hucknall bowls club is seeing an increase in numbers following a successful recruitment day during the May bank holiday.

Titchfield Park Bowls Club welcomed 36 new bowlers to its green during the 'Bowls' Big Weekend' event which took place on Monday 31 May. The day was part of a national initiative, run by Bowls England, designed to give people a chance to sample the game of bowls in order to help boost the sport's popularity.

Hucknall Leisure Centre's brand new fitness suite will open on Monday (9th August). It has been transformed as part of the £20millon investment into the District's leisure centres by Ashfield District Council and Everyone Active.

The state-of-the-art fitness suite has been relocated into a larger space to accommodate the new equipment which includes: all new Technogym equipment; a functional training area; an Olympic power rack; Watt bikes; climbers and plate loaded equipment.

Tomorrow (6th August) sees the release of Stillwater starring Matt Damon. The film has been in the spotlight in the US this week because the writer-director said the story was inspired by the Amanda Knox 'saga' and she has criticised the film on social media. However, film insiders have said that there is much more to it than the trailer suggests, and that Damon could even be looking at an Oscar nomination.
