A Hucknall opticians helped a nine-year-old local boy to compete in his very first open swim competition at Hucknall Leisure Centre.
Specsavers, based on Hucknall High Street, sponsored Leo Frisby in one of his races, the 50 metre backstroke, at the competition which took place on Sunday 6 March.
The store has been eagerly following Leo's progress for many years as he has been visiting it since he was two.
At the Radford Open Swim Meet, Leo, who is from Hucknall, competed in four races in total, which as well as the 50 metre backstroke race, included the 50 metre breaststroke, 50 metre freestyle and the 100 metre individual medley where he swam one length of each stroke (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle).
Janet Archer, Specsavers Hucknall store director said: "We're delighted to be supporting Leo. We know he has been eagerly waiting to turn nine so he is old enough to join his older brothers at an open swim meet.
"He has been coming to see us since he was two years old and had his first prescription swimming googles when he was three. It's been a joy to follow his journey so far and we can't wait to see what he does next."
Poised to follow in his brother Zak's footsteps, who is a keen swimmer and has fundraised for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, Leo has also taken part in the British Blind Sport Youth Swimming Gala this month too.
Janet added: "As a local business we are passionate about supporting our community. Becoming involved in the recent Radford Open Swim Meet, sponsoring the 50m backstroke race and donating a prize for the raffle on the day, was a great opportunity to get involved and cheer Leo on at the same time."
