A crew from Hucknall Fire Station are on the scene of a sizeable building fire in Bulwell.

The first crews reached the blaze on Thames Street just after 11am this morning (Tuesday January 4).

A post on Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue's social media platforms said: "We are currently in attendance at a fire on Thames Street Bulwell. Please avoid the area if possible and we ask local residents to close their doors and windows if affected by the smoke."

A further post added: "Due to a risk of asbestos in the smoke please avoid the area around Thames Street Bulwell and we ask local residents to close their doors and windows."

Crews from Stockhill, Arnold, Eastwood, Ilkeston and London Road were initially deployed to the scene before later being joined by crews from Hucknall, Mansfield, Edwinstowe and Belper.

The firefighters are still on the scene, continuing to attempt to contain and extinguish the blaze.
