A residents group based in the West Ward of Hucknall met for the time since the beginning of the pandemic last night (Tuesday 7 September).

The 'Reachout' residents group usually discuss council issues, policing, the NHS, transport and have guests answering questions from all the many organisations present.

An election took place, and the chairperson Sally Wyatt was returned unopposed; the group are still looking for a secretary, anyone interested should contact the chair.

The members were particularly concerned about the condition of the two islands fronting the new housing estate on the Rolls Royce sight and suggested sponsors could be sought for the area.

It was suggested that more safe cycling areas could be brought forward as the Hucknall roads become more congested.

The group were also concerned about forthcoming Parliamentary Boundary changes and its impact on Hucknall. Under proposals tabled by Ashfield District Council, Hucknall West would be moved out of the Sherwood constituency into Ashfield with the rest of Hucknall remaining in Sherwood, meaning the town would have two MPs.

It was hoped to have a Christmas event with the help of Ashfield District Council on Nabbs Lane Recreation Ground for the people in the area.

Hucknall's Ashfield Independent Councillors Dave Shaw and John Wilmott were present to answer any questions on council responsibilities.

Councillor John Wilmott said: "It was great to see this community group coming back together for the first time in 18 months. As ever, your councillors will deal with all the issues raised by Hucknall residents. Groups like this are a great way of getting things done and as local councillors we are always happy to help. We are lucky in Hucknall to have a number of these groups who achieve so much by coming together."

It is hoped that at the next meeting representatives from the police, Trent Barton, the County and District Councils and any organisation that delivers services to the Hucknall community will be present.

The next meeting is on Tuesday 30 November at 6.30 pm in the main hall at Holgate Academy, all residents in the area are welcome to attend.
