Two Hucknall pubs are participating in Nottingham CAMRA's (Campaign for Real Ale) Cider Saunter this July.

Beer Shack and Byron's Rest are two of 26 pubs around the Nottingham area taking part in the trail. All of the venues will be stocking a range of draught real ciders and perries including at least one from local East Midlands producers.

Anyone who wants to take part in the Cider Saunter simply has to visit one of the listed pubs and order at least a half pint of draught real cider or perry. They then need to tell the staff that they're on the Cider Saunter which will result in them receiving a Unique Code Number to enter on the entry form.

Anyone who visits at least eight pubs will qualify for a free pint of cider or perry (or even beer) at the 2022 Robin Hood Beer & Cider Festival in October. Whilst visiting all 26 pubs will give people a chance to enter into a draw to win a very special prize – a free one hour pleasure flight around the Nottingham area in a light aircraft!

Entry forms, as well as a full list of the venues involved, can be found in the latest edition of Nottingham Drinker, or on the Nottingham CAMRA website.

Nottingham CAMRA Cider Officer Heather Stretton said: "CAMRA is not exclusively about beer, many members prefer to drink apple or pear based products, and the Nottingham Cider Team is proud to promote these wonderful drinks.

"We appreciate the heritage and skill of our many cider and perry makers throughout the country and we are lucky enough to have a large number of makers within the East Midlands. Our Cider Saunter is a great opportunity to try an interesting and varied range of the cider makers art."

Both of the Hucknall pubs that are involved in the Cider Saunter have received high praise from Nottingham CAMRA in recent months.

Beer Shack on Derbyshire Lane which serves a range of locally sourced ciders, including Hucknall based Torkard Cider, claimed the runner-up position in the 2022 'Nottingham Cider Pub of the Year' competition, which was organised by CAMRA.

It was heralded for its selection of local ciders as well as its friendly and welcoming ambience.

Byron's Rest on Baker Street also scooped second place in the urban section of the 'Pub of the Year 2022' competition, to further consolidate Hucknall's place in the forefront of real ale enthusiasts' consciousness.
