Hucknall Town inflicted a first defeat of the season on fellow title contenders Radford FC in their penultimate league game at Watnall Road last night (Wednesday 12 October).
Goals from Joe Ashurst and Craig Westcarr saw Hucknall claim all three points in a much anticipated encounter.
The Yellows went into the game occupying fourth position in the Uhlsport United Counties League Division One table, five points adrift of second place Radford who headed into the match with the only unbeaten record in the league.
However, this record came to an abrupt end as Hucknall ran out 2-0 winners in front of a crowd of 230.
A hard fought contest that lacked many clear cut chances looked destined to be goalless as the clock ticked into the last 20 minutes.
However, with just over 15 minutes remaining, Ashurst, who was captain for the evening, headed in a Westcarr cross to break the deadlock.
Westcarr then added the second, nine minutes from time with a header of his own from a Connor Whiles cross.
The win moved Hucknall up to third in the table just five points behind leaders Aylestone Park and two points behind Radford who remain second despite last night's defeat.
Hucknall are back in action on Saturday (15 October) when they welcome Aylestone to Watnall Road for their final ever league game at the ground. After 79 years, Hucknall are moving to a new purpose built ground just across the road on Aerial Way which will be known as The RM Stadium. To mark the occasion the club won't be charging an entry fee for the fixture.
