Hucknall Town beaten by league leaders Aylestone Park thanks to last gasp goal
Hucknall Town were cruelly denied a point against runaway league leaders Aylestone Park on Tuesday night (28 February) after conceding a last gasp winner at Linwood Playing Field.
The Yellows went into the game full of confidence following a comprehensive 5-1 win over struggling Gedling Miners Welfare on Saturday (25 February).
However, they made a poor start in this game and found themselves two behind after just over 10 minutes played. Louis Samuels rolled in the opener before Aaron Nuttall doubled the hosts' advantage from the penalty spot.
The visitors responded well, Sam Sims went close before Joe Ashurst pulled one back with half an hour played. The experienced midfielder turned the ball home after Craig Westcarr's strike had bounced back off the post.
This goal gave Hucknall momentum heading towards half-time, and they found themselves a little unlucky not to be level at the break. Kieran Knight's volley was fielded by the Aylestone goalkeeper before Ashurst hit the crossbar with a shot from range.
Sims and Knight both then forced smart saves from the goalkeeper before the half-time whistle sounded.
In the second half, Aaron Lamb and Aaron Short had chances before Ashurst grabbed his second of the match with a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area to equalise with 15 minutes remaining.
Then with the clock ticking into additional time, Justin Peace rose highest at a corner to nod the ball into the back of the net and give the home side all three points much to the delight of their fans.
Hucknall, who currently still occupy the final play-off place in the Uhlsport United Counties Division One table, will look to bounce back when they host Saffron Dynamo tomorrow (4 March) at The RM Stadium.
