Hucknall Town score two late goals to claim dramatic victory over Blackstones
Hucknall Town staged a thrilling comeback last night (Wednesday 15 March) to beat Blackstones and climb into third place in the Uhlsports United Counties Division One table.
Stoppage time goals from debutant Niall Towle and club captain Aaron Short saw The Yellows complete a sensational come from behind win.
The game was goalless at halftime as both sides struggled to create clear cut chances in the first half.
Just three minutes into the second half it was the visitors who found the breakthrough as Ryan Lennon grabbed the opening goal of the evening.
Hucknall responded well with Craig Westcarr unlucky not to level the scores just a few minutes after Lennon's goal, but he saw his effort rebound off the post and bounce away to safety.
The hosts continued to press, Sam Sims' header from a corner that went just over the bar was the closest they came.
Then as the game ticked past the 90th minute, Towle produced a moment of magic to fire the ball into the bottom corner and draw Hucknall level. The goal was even more remarkable given that his signing was announced just hours before the game.
If the fans in the RM Stadium thought they'd seen all of the drama, they were wrong as they witnessed Hucknall grab all three points with practically the last touch of the match.
After a freekick came back off the crossbar, Short kept his cool to head home from about two yards out and send the crowd into wild celebrations.
Hucknall had started the game outside of the play-off places thanks to Radford's win on Tuesday night (14 March) but claiming all three points from this fixture saw them vault past three clubs and they are now just three points adrift of Bourne Town who are currently second.
They return to action on Saturday (18 March) when they visit struggling Grantham Town.
