Hucknall Town secured an impressive victory over second placed Bourne Town last night (Wednesday 11 January) to climb up to fourth in the Uhlsport United Counties Division One table.

The win, the club's second at the new RM Stadium in the space of four days, was watched by a crowd of 245.

It was a fairly quiet first half, with few chances for either side but just as it looked as if the first half would end goalless, Hucknall found a breakthrough.

A cross from the right hand side of the box caused confusion in the Bourne backline and one of the defenders inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.

In the second half Bourne pressed hard for an equaliser but could not find the cutting edge to level things up.

Hucknall then extended their lead with just under five minutes remaining as Kieran Knight made the most of a defensive error to drive into the box, commit the 'keeper and square the ball to Craig Westcarr who slotted the ball into an empty net.

James Hill-Seekings converted a penalty for the visitors in stoppage time to give Yellows fans a nervous last couple of minutes but Hucknall held on to secure another vital three points.

Speaking to the club's official website, manager Andy Ingle said: "We knew how important this game was from the outset and whilst we did have our backs to the wall at times, I thought our defending was resolute, Bourne are a good team and we handled them well.

"I thought we were dangerous on the break and it could have been a third with Knight just lifting his strike over the bar. Once we got the second, it changed the match and obviously Bourne came at us. The squad were positive at half time and in difficult conditions and against quality opposition, we showed our quality."

Hucknall are back in action, again at The RM Stadium, on Saturday (14 January) when they host West Bridgford.
